richardWhat was your earliest volunteer experience?

I had previously volunteered with the Red Cross, a senior citizens’ hospital, and a homeless shelter.

Do you have any anecdotes or insights to share about the one-month training program leading up to your Fellowship travels?

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the other program participants–the group activities helped us bond.

Do you have any advice for future Fellows?

Be patient and always be open to unexpected changes. This is primarily an opportunity to learn that, regardless of what you might think, your contributions are significant. Most importantly, have a work-life balance–in addition to doing your work, experience as much of the culture as possible. If you can, take a couple of days to be a tourist. One of my favourite memories is going to Mohenjo Dharo, the Indus Valley Civilization site with some of my co-workers. It was amazing.

What are you doing now?

I am working as Counsel with the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee, Ministry of the Attorney General in Ontario.
